Unsettled weather on tap through Monday evening

The Heat Advisories that were in effect for the entire area through Sunday evening have been allowed to expire as temperatures cool down courtesy of the loss of diurnal heating. The focus now turns to a cold front sagging southward towards the Tri-States.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely overnight Sunday for some locations, and then a renewed threat of showers and thunderstorms will persist during the day on Monday as the front passes through the area. Once the front clears the area Monday evening the threat of unsettled weather should subside for the time being.

Widespread severe weather is not anticipated through Monday evening, although some storms could produce gusty winds in excess of 50 mph, dangerous cloud to ground lightning, and localized downpours that produce ponding of water on bridges and roadways. Areas that receive localized heavy rainfall from thunderstorms may see 24-hour rainfall totals exceed 0.50″ by Tuesday morning.
